Topic: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

Not sure whether this has been aired before. I attended the Quo gig at Liverpool's Echo arena last Friday evening. Great night, particularly as I had tickets in the third row. Interestingly their fan club members get priority bookings for the front three rows at their concerts. Could something like this be considered for Street team members. I know we can often get on the guest list for all standing gigs, but I like to pay for my enjoyment and always buy Joe tickets even if I'm applying for a photopass. It would be great if there could be some kind of preferential deal we could be offered now Joe is reaching out to bigger audiences!

That is something I am advocating. I hear you Geoff and it seems more important now than ever before.

Re: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

Well, "Street Team" and "Fan Club" are two different things.  Can you imagine how many new "streetteamers" we'd have who only signed up to get good seats?  hmm

To the best of my knowledge, we don't have an actual "Fan Club", yet.  Isn't that what they were trying to get started when we had that whole name-game fiasco? tongue

I think is a great idea too.  Street Team members actually do something (lots of somethings) to promote Joe and we're not just a "fan club" in my opinion.  I believe in Joe's music, his direction, his humble self, and everything...I'm not trying to just get his autograph!  LOL

I went to the Portland, OR show on a whim because I was at work in Portland during the week he was playing there.  I requested tickets from Street Team HQ and Jim and Melissa helped me get them...the seats were in the center balcony (not my usual choice of seat) but they turned out to be pretty decent seats!  The next night Joe went to Seattle and I saw him there too (with tickets we purchased 5 months ahead of time for Center Row A).  Don't get me wrong...I totally prefer the front row seats and would love it if when we requested seats, they were in the front row!   big_smile

I'll check back in awhile to see if any progress is made on this.  I see the post was in July 2010 and I haven't heard anything new on this in the newletter, emails, etc.  I'll keep the faith though!

Re: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

This might be a great way for Joe to sort of keep in touch as he attracts bigger and bigger audiences. It has been geat watching him grow as a performer and get bigger numbers at shows and it has been fantastic to have him meet us after shows but I guess this might not be as possible going forward. I have backed off a bit from "stalking" (way too strong a word) the band at gigs as I have had my turn at much smaller shows and want to let others have a turn.....but that doesn't mean I have stopped my passion for the music and the people nor to stop promoting them (although now it seems most I speak to have heard of the band).

To have some kind of priority ticket chance would be great and a way of that communication with the people who love the music most continuing closely.
Maybe we could have RAH like meetings more often  cool

Re: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

This might sound like a stupid question but I joined the street team and have never received an email soliciting my support or anything.  I am not sure what it means to be on the street team.  I am a musician and could really help out in Indianapolis/Indiana area.  I am also a consultant for my day job and drive all over the state on a regular basis.  This would be an easy way to canvas a state.  Can someone please let me know how to help and/or what to expect from the "Street Team."  Thanks!

Re: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

Go to the Street Team website www.bonamassastreetteam.com there are ideas about what you can do in your area. There will be times when you are contacted directly depending on your location and if Joe is appearing in your town.

Do I take it that you want to arrange the next big bash, Ges?  wink  cool  Having done my bit, I can't wait.

BTW, I'm all for Street Team Members or regular posters on the forum being able to purchase tickets ahead of the pack. Maybe it should be restricted to those who post on the General Forum only otherwise we'd have some who post 999 on the other artists forum and 1 in the General Forum having equal status. No names mentioned of course. roll  lol

Phil I don't even have time to fit all of lifes work and domestic things in ! smile
The after show meet was brilliant and I thanked you and Michael on the first edition of the radio show I used to do up here. I guess I was thinking more of the day before afternoon/night Aynsley show gathering (I'm a massive fan now) (Thanks Duncan) and the pre Joe meet in the park and the exciting walk to the RAH with new friends with the anticipation rising. The after show party must have taken a lot of time and anxiety to sort. The RAH DVD captures Joe's side of that anticipation hair raisingly good !!

Re: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

I've read this thread with interest. Back in 2007 when I first heard of Joe I signed  up to his street team and heard nothing more, so I never did anything official but I certainly did spread the word and encouraged many people I know to go and see Joe.

Since then Joe's success in the UK has been phenominal with larger venues each time. Therefore for me, I kind of feel it's mission accomplished in the UK and there's nothing further that I would need to do.

Glad to have been assistance in what was a great weekend Ges.  smile This thread though I'm not really comfortable with. The point of a street team is to spread the word about an artist, rather than request for prefential treatment for longstanding fans. Do I as a longterm fan have any right to have a better place in the audience than someone who is seeing Joe for the first time? Do I expect to meet Joe after every show? Personally I think not, why should new fans have to be placed behind a select bunch, or wait at the back of a long line? I don't think I'd have liked that when I saw Joe for the first time. As Ges says give the new fans their turn. So as for special treatment sorry guys but I don't believe that is right. If you want to get the best places, buy first, if not take your place where you find it, or attend a different show.

Basing it on forum posts would be inaccurate too, I still wonder about those members that collect posts on strange other topics. As for the members who post more frequently in other artists that general topics, well I'm guilty as charged. When I first joined I could not get enough of Joe's music. Times and tastes change though and while Joe has gained a much larger following, it's clear to me that many of the longer posters on the forum have either moved their attention to the other artists section or pretty much left the forum altogether. Personally I find few reasons to post in general topics at present, I'm not attending any of the announced forthcoming shows and actually, neither the Black Rock and Black Country Communion albums have really appealed to me. So the street team for me should be for those who wish to make others aware of Joe where he is not that well known for selfless reasons rather than the hope of special tickets. As for me, at this moment I'm probably more interested in getting Joe's large fanbase to discover some of the other great artists that I've discovered since I first heard of Joe.

I agree with just about all you said Duncan and no, even after spreading the word of Joe for a number of years now, I have never asked to be reimbursed in any way. Actually, I've never asked to be comp'd for a ticket either. What I do for Joe has always been done because I think he's one of the best I've ever seen and for me, turning on a friend or acquaintance to Joe's music is actually doing them a favor. smile

The other thing that you mentioned is turning on others that know and like Joe's music to other artist's music. And you know what? That can work both ways! For example, a number of people know I'm personal friends with Tallan Latz and his parents. Ever since meeting Tallan a number of years ago, I've always spread the word for him and people, once they see him perform, can't get enough of him. One night at a show that we were at, but Tallan wasn't playing at, a local promoter was talking with him at our table. He asked him who his influences were. Tallan started naming off artists and the list went: Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, etc. As Tallan finished the list I quietly said to him, "and Joe Bonamassa." Tallan didn't quite hear me so he turned around and asked, "Who?", and I said again, "and Joe Bonamassa." Tallan then whipped around and said to the promoter, "Oh, and Joe Bonamassa". That was the first time I ever heard Tallan list Joe as an influence, so when Tallan mentioned Joe's name as one of his influences on the TV show, "America's Got Talent", I nearly fell out of my chair. cool Hey, everyone appreciates a mention now and then. wink

Re: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

Tallan seemed to almost not mention Joe on that TV show, if I recall, there was a slight pause like some stars who get temporarily embarrassed at awards shows and get that "Oh, yeah" flash of who to mention.

I am in much agreement with Mr. Greenose.  Yet I do see both sides.  I'd put my ear to the wall like the guy in Foreigner's Juke Box Hero if that was the best ticket I could get...

Re: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

You guys are really great at communicating back and forth.  I still feel like I can do more.  Although I have only been a street team member for about 2 months or so, I have been spreading the word of Joe for about 4 years.  I play guitar all over Indianapolis and during my set breaks I always control the "background music (I always crank it almost as loud as I play which is tasteless but I don't care!) and always play Joe's music.  Every Friday and Saturday night, for the past 3 years in one particular club, I have played Joe's music and talked it up huge.  I think I have converted the whole city!  We had a pretty good turn out in Indy last year and hope that Joe comes back soon.  If anyone is going to come to see him in Indy I can organize a charity jam at a club for all of us players to get up and have a good jam during the day for a good cause and to pre-game before the show.  Let me know if I can do more or if any of you are interested.  Also, I will pay full price for my tickets all day!!!!  Go Joe!!!!!

Re: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

I saw a JB Facebook post that mentioned the entire US as a geographic "area". I never received any here either and used my usual back channel methods to get in the presale. Maybe some of our street team em addresses were lost in the crash?

Re: Advance ticket orders for Street Team members

I just want to say a few things:

1.  I joined the Street Team a few years ago, and I used to periodically get a Street Team Newsletter by email, but I have received absolutely nothing from the Street Team for a long time now.  Only the regular mailing list emails.  Do we no longer get newsletters and such, or does it sound like maybe I somehow accidentally got booted from the Street Team list?

2.  I think anyone who is signed up on Joe's email list (whether they're a Street Team member or not) should be getting email notifications of ALL ticket presales for ALL shows EVERYWHERE.  This is how it works with most other artists/bands... off the top of my head, Gov't Mule, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Phish, Roger Waters, etc, etc.  I'm against dividing anything into regions or using a milage radius to decide who gets what notices, for several reasons: a) Everyone has a different idea of what's an acceptable distance to travel for shows, ranging anywhere from a couple hours to across the globe, and depending on things like available income and time, having relatives/friends in other areas to visit, traveling for work, etc; b) There are always people who live near the borderline of two regions who would be interested in both regions; and c) Sometimes people like to alert their friends and relatives elsewhere of shows coming to their area.

3.  In my opinion, a "Street Team" should denote a pre-planned arrangement where you really WORK to promote a particular show, whether it be postering & flyering, emailing, other online promo, word-of-mouth, etc (preferably a combination of all of these)... and I mean over and above what the average fan does, like investing some real time and effort... in exchange for a guaranteed ticket (or pair of tickets, whatever the deal is) to that show.  Even if you're more than willing to buy your own tickets, you can use the freebies to bring in newbies.  Obviously, as an artist/band gets bigger, the need for a Street Team diminishes.  Now you have enough people for a "Fan Club", usually joined by simply signing up for the email list.  Once in a great while a fee is involved, but it normally comes with some benefit like a t-shirt and first chance at choice seats, or something.
