Re: Ronnie James Dio RIP

My dad used to play Elf a lot when I was a kid.. We had a Utica boy in the band.. Steve Edwards.  I have been a very big fan of Ronnie from my wee days.  Its a tremendous loss for music.  He was a true gentleman.  The one thing I forgot to mention on facebook was. His presence on stage was legendary.. He walked and took the mic and from note one through the end he had everyone of those 2 thousand people in the House of Blues.  I have never seen such control.  It was like being in the presence of something greater than met the eye.  Very few artist have the talent to do that.  Especially kids these days.  He was one of them.

R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio

I only saw him twice. 2005 (Dio) and 2007 (Heaven And Hell).

Lookin' back in front of me

Re: Ronnie James Dio RIP

I first saw Ronnie with Rainbow, and then a couple of times with Black Sabbath and a few more times with his solo band.  Always he had a commanding presence on stage that left you mesmerised.  And that voice!  He had possibly the most powerful and recogniseable voice in rock music.

Many of his songs, in whatever incarnation of band he was in, remain absolute classics and are a great testament to his life and works.  In particular, Rainbow Rising, Heaven and Hell and Holy Diver are three of the greatest heavy rock albums ever recorded.

Re: Ronnie James Dio RIP

Yes it is sad news, particularly when it had been reported he was getting better. He’s certainly a heavy metal legend, one of the best vocalists in that field and made some classic albums, in particular Sabbath’s Heaven and Hell album.
Sadly it’s an indication of things to come as just like blues in the past most of the pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal are now moving into that third age.
Here's a blues tinged song he recorded with Sabbath:

Very sad to see him lose the fight after encouraging words on his condition recently. Though there have been huge strides in treating cancer in recent years there is still no sure fire remedy. Honor Ronnie or those you know afflicted by this disease by donating to cancer research.

Re: Ronnie James Dio RIP

VERY sad news......RJD was and always will be a rock n' roll legend.

I'll never forget that day back in '82 when I walked out of a record store in Redding Calif. with DIO's- HOLY DIVER  album in hand, got home, spun it and knew I had just bought a classic.

Re: Ronnie James Dio RIP

I was so sorry to hear this.

Thought I post this with condolences from some of his friends.

The picture reminds me of seeing him on stage and the presence he had. He was one of those vocalist you had to see live to really hear how his voice resonated.  I'm glad I got to meet him because he was so kind.  All I can think of right now is the Man on the Silver Mountain.

RIP Ronnie

Very sad to hear the time had arrived.  Ronnie played at my high school (Elf) before Rainbow, Sabbath or Dio, as he was a friend of friends of mine (those friendships have lasted to this day).  He played bass and sang of course, and it was a fantastic night, especially taken in retrospect of his career which was very long, very strong, and very successful.  What an instantly recognizable iconic voice.  A terribly nice human also.  My condolences to Wendy (another literal angel of LA), family, and friends of Ronnie around the world.  Sad day.  sad
But blessed by him...

Elf played at WHS too. Still have the two Elf albums, though they're a bit scratchy. Mickey Lee Soule's piano playing gave me the inspiration to continue on with my lessons.

And for those who didn't know, Dio is God in Italian.

Well Spider, Mickey was the only one not present when they played our school.  Disappointment, but still a thrill knowing the guys were big time bound-actually already there to a degree but still hanging with friends and locals...

The more I think about it maybe it was at the Gaslight in the Seaway Plaza where I saw them play. It was so long ago it's hard to remember. As a matter of fact most of those days were a blur.

Could be. I haven't lived there since 75. Now I bypass that town like the plague. More fun at the lake, Alex Bay or visiting friends at Lake Bonaparte. Bet you've been to a party or two there back in the day!?
