Re: Happy Cinqo de Mayo Arizona

It is a minor regional holiday in Mexico. In the U.S., it is a day originally promoted by a brewery to drink and party. Mexicans in the U.S. have taken it up as "their" day to celebrate being Mexican in cities with a large immigrant Mexican population, mostly illegal. The thread came up as a veiled commentary on the Arizona law recently passed to apprehend illegal aliens, predominately Mexican, which are overrunning Arizona and the other border states. Some posters may believe, erroneously, that the law discriminates racially. Mexican is not a race. It is a hot topic of debate, misinformation and inflammatory rhetoric here in the U.S.
RickHellFire. Hispanic is not a race...

FDOLMissed the point Jeff. Hispanic is the race, Mexican is the nationality. You have to live out here to see the issues. Nuff said, this is verging on thin ice.

Easy there Rick. It's rare I miss a point. I stand by my statement. In Spain there lives blue eyed blondies. There are white, black, oriental & mestizo peoples of spanish language and culture. I've lived/worked in Scam Diego and LA. My bro-in-law lives and works as a fed officer in Arizona. I was born in Miami.
Hispanic is a recent word indicating ethnos or culture in the beginning. It came from politics. I watched it happen. There was no pile on intended. I'm a mutt, anyway.
