Nick Moss and FlipTops

Caught this guy at Blind Willies in Atlanta, GA last night and I will tell you this man can jam.

I dont think there were any songs shorter then five minutes. With two keyboards, drummer and bass Nick was able to realize his dream of all out jamming and allowing the spotlight to other band members.

Willie OShawney was given his moments to shine. I know Jerry Lee Lewis is a great piano playing. IMHO I dont think he has anything on this guy who can bang the keys, sing with gusto and find his way to fit in nicely in the mix.

And Nick? This was my first time seeing him and this guy loves to play. I know his latest cd is a turn off to people who love authentic blues. But after speaking to him, he wanted to go in a different direction as he probably feels authentic blues can wear out their welcome if played too long.

I think he did a good job with mixing authentic blues with rock.  Read the latest Blues Revue. The feature says it all right there with where his head is at. And I think most of us can agree with Nick's philosophy of how we discovered blues. And most importantly make us realize that if it wasn't for the bands of our youth, blues could have been declared dead.

So I am happy Nick proudly flies the banner that is colorful and proclaims blues and rock can mix together and people can dance and have a good time. And that was certainly the case at Blind Willies.

Way to go Nick. You are the best!!

I completely agree. Nick is a great guitar player and a really nice guy. Better then most of the stuff posted on here. He's helped many people out there.

I still have a problem with Nick's new album though. I actually love it and have always loved rockin blues. I remember seeing Nick ten years ago and he was playing the straight up blues or "real" blues as he put it. And up until Nick's new album he was quite vocal about how "blues/rock" was hurting "real" blues and made it a point in a lot of his promo at belittling blues/rock bands. I've always hated the term "real blues" as opposed to other blues. We don't need these labels in music, if you dig it, buy and support it.

So I found Nicks new album quite surprising at how rocky it is. I guess it goes to show you that tastes can change, both on the fan side and the musician side. Hopefully Nick will be more forgiving to other "blues/rock" bands now.
