Topic: I learn something new every day

Driving down the freeway after the Riverside Joeshow, we were discussing musical evolutions and my son in law Dean says, "check this out" and slips a CD in the player. After a few bars, we asked in amazement "Who's that? What a voice!" He quipped "That rapper, Queen Latifah"...... We listened in stunned silence. Here are some clips.

So much for stereotyping. I can imagine her discussion with the producer, "Yeah, I do Rap, but I can sing too."  tongue

Wow, Rick that was great!!!  The Queen is multi-talented, did you see Chicago?  And she's been in a few other movies with a funny twist and does ads for makeup, she has gorgeous skin.   I was a HUGE Phoebe Snow fan in the 70's and still love her music, she has such a standout/unique voice.  Phoebe was the vocals of some commercial a couple years back, maybe for GE...  I always wonder what happens to these artists...Linda Ronstadt, Janis Ian, Karla Bonoff... Carole King is doing a tour with James Taylor.

My son brought to my attention a song, Military Madness, from my fav Graham Nash album (Songs for  Beginners) being covered by one of his bands... I'll take the original in this case, but it is cool when an artist uncovers an great song from the past and does it justice.   smile

Re: I learn something new every day

Glad you liked it Angela. It sure opened my eyes. I so dislike Rap and Hip Hop that I dismiss those artists out  of hand. I'm exploring her work now. She's quite the talented lady.
I saw Linda Ronstadt a few years ago after her release of Canciones de mi Padre, a compilation of Mexican Mariachi  ballads.  That angelic voice is still there and she knocked the socks off Mariachi fans who could not believe a woman who did not grow up in Mexico and had Spanish as a second language could so perfectly nail the form. Check that album out.

My gal Karen's on the phone as I post with her cousin who just scored their seats for the Carol/James show coming to Oakland. It's their family girls night out which they pull off once a year. I guess that leaves an open date for me and the guys.
