Switzerland doesn't have a Navy, but it does have the, Merchant Marine Of Switzerland. It maintains a fleet of military lake patrol boats on....

Switzerland is quite unique in many ways, and very beautiful, both in winter and summer! The people are a little strange, but very warm and welcoming. I would recommend anyone to go visit.
What is strange about the Swiss? There was a special on tv here about the Swiss Army. It told about how every citizen is a member for life after the compulsory military service is completed and keeps an arsenal at home. Interesting show.

"What's strange about the Swiss"? That's hard to define in words. You have to spend some time there. That fact about, keeping an arsenal at home is true! For a neutral country.... the swiss are very heavily armed.
It also has many deep bunkers dotted about,for the population in case of a hostile attack.
They're off! Finally, the weather cooperated and race 1 commenced. At the start, Alinghi made a serious error and were caught over the line resulting in a penalty. USA stalled dead in the water but soon got moving and from that point the superior technology of the wing sail was apparent. From the start, USA displayed superior boat speed to Alinghi. Winds were light, about 8 knots, but USA was able to make 16 to 18 knots upwind and 24 to 28 knots of boat speed in the downwind leg.
At the finish, USA was leading by about 4 km.
Next and maybe last race Sunday.
Hopefully, one more race and the US gets the cup back. The Swiss are hoping our boat breaks!

Yes and the race is on right now. Alinghi made a mistake at the start and is carrying a penalty. They are ahead now with a better show of speed. Good race so far.
WOOHOO
After 15 years abroad, the Cup returns to home. USA sweeps the Swiss 2-0 in dominating fashion on the waters off Valencia.
FINALLY!!!!! BRAVO!!!! Now we have to worry about keeping it!! 15 yrs. is way too long. Next time they come to our house Cathy

I don't think 3 races is enough IMO!
That is how the Deed of Gift is written. It was modified over the years to best 4 of 7. The Swiss boat could have raced 20 times and never won. They choked twice in a row in the pre-start maneuvers and incurred time penalties that would have led to losses even if the boats were fairly close in speeds. The boat they brought to the race was woefully slower. They got Spanked in every way. In the courts when they tried to cheat, with tactical maneuvers pre-start, with brilliant technology and on the course. Very embarrassing result. The only way they could have won is if the US boat sank.
