This is my vote too and totally agree Mike

AC/DC All day long and Still Kicking Up Dust Now, 37 years of churning top quality powerful Rock albums and some of Rocks classic anthems, too many too mention, Back in Black being the 2nd Biggest selling album of all time, selling more than any other album ever and only trailing Michael Jackson's Thriller, not bad for a Rock Band

Although Led Zeppelin we're just so brilliant and too, had many of rocks legendary songs their lifespan was very short at 13 years, Love Zep's sound

I Guess a top 10 would look something like this

AC/DC
LED ZEPPELIN
LYNYRD SKYNYRD
PINK FLOYD
ROLLING STONES
DEEP PURPLE
THE WHO
QUEEN
IRON MAIDEN
METALLICA

These are the Monsters of Rock  imho  cool thread with much opinion/discussion   cool

That is a pretty good list there, however I would trade you a Rush and a Cream for the Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden. Like the inclusion of Metallica, highly underrated in my opinion.

saying ac/dc is the best rock band ever is like saying rock is all about not taking any risks and being satisfied with the same old thing that has always worked before.  sorry, isn't how i see, never will be!

That's a pretty good list, but I'm in agreement with the other poster regarding AC/DC.  Though a great band with many hit songs, there's no denying their songwriting didn't stray too far from three chords.
As much as I'd like to put The Stones at the top, I think I'll go with Jimmy Page and crew instead.

I find it difficult to discount one of the great guitar tandems of all time. Malcolm and Angus have been tearing it up for a long time. If I had to rate overall guitarists for each of the top ten bands, would have them first by a large margin.

If we are going to reduce it to just one band, then I will take Rush.

Re: Best Rock Band Ever?

I'll preface this by saying to each his own.  Probably on any reputable top ten guitarist list you'd find Jimmy Page somewhere in the middle.  No list would include Malcolm or Angus in their top 20.  Not saying those guys don't rock, just saying they're not elite guitarists imho.

Bill Graham summed up his good friends the Grateful Dead by saying, " They're not the best at what they do, they're the only ones who do what they do." You could sort of apply that to AC DC as well.
