Re: T-Mobile commercial featuring Eric Clapton.....

Vicki-Wow that is a very sad story.  I've heard stories about musicians that fell into drugs and alcohol and loss $$$, but the ones being takin' for a ride by their managers, its outrageous. A couple years ago I remember reading about Johnny Winter's manager stealing from him before he got straight.  I think both of the other Supremes besides Diana ended up totally broke.  Another angle I didn't think about, with all the unlawful downloading etc., I guess that dips into future revenues of artists.

After all this conversation, I think its OK for musicians to make $$$ from endorsements and advertisements.  No one ever said they took a vow of poverty.  smile

Re: T-Mobile commercial featuring Eric Clapton.....

Regarding Clapton though, I really don't think I ever see him going broke. I mean, look at all the hits he has. And I know that on one of my local classic rock stations, Wonderful Tonight, Lay Down Sally, I Can't Stand It, Layla, Bad Love, Tears In Heaven, and My Father's Eyes all get a good amount of airplay, and those are just the songs he's written. I know he has a very luxurious lifestyle, but something tells me he also really enjoys doing what he's doing. When he was asked why he continues to do what he does, he once said (and this was like 5 or so years ago) that it was for the pure amateur enjoyment of it.
