Topic: 2 heads 1 stero cab

I've got a 4 x 12, Marshall 1960 slant cab.  Will it hurt anything if I run 2 amp heads through the cab on the stero setting (using the proper ohm settings)?

I've got a ceritone 18 / 36 watt (kinda like the Marshall 1974X with vox channel as well) and another 12 watt F**der type head.

I just don't want to blow anything up.  What do I need to be cautious of as far as in phase / out of phase?

Thanks for your help.

Re: 2 heads 1 stero cab

Thats fine.  Just make sure your heads are set to 8 ohms.

Will you be running the heads at the same time or switching between them?

Re: 2 heads 1 stero cab

Thanks for the answer.

I would like to A / B / Y them if that's possible?

That's what I plan to do. Keep me posted on how this works out! What's your Fe..er 12 watt head?

Re: 2 heads 1 stero cab

All you need is an aby switch. I recommend one with at least ground lifts in it like the palmer or voodoo. I know they are capable of handling more than two amps, but they won't suck your tone. If you find that you set up lacks bass and kinda sounds like a bad phaser pedal (as joe says) you are probably out of phase. To remedy this you can do three things: 1) connect one of the heads to the cab with a speaker cable wired in reverse on one side; 2) switch the speaker leads on one of the verticle sides of the cab (both speakers, this requires opening up the cab); or 3) some of the aby switchers come with phase switches like the palmer. The voodoo may also.

Caution: don't use the three to two prong adapters that you put on the power cord to remedy a ground loop. Some people do it, but it is very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing (and even if you do know what you are doing). As a rule of thumb, don't disconnect the amps saftey earth ground.

Re: 2 heads 1 stero cab

Keep in mind that when you play through only one of the amps, you're actually playing over 2x12" in a 4x12" cab space. I don't know how it sounds, but if it's ok you could consider trading the 4x12 cab for 2 2x12 cabs, I think that sounds better.

Re: 2 heads 1 stero cab

I used to run both of my Rivera 8 ohm outputs (mono) into both (stereo) inputs on the back of my 1960A cab. It felt like it had more juice than just having one Rivera output hooked into the 16ohm mono input on the cab.
