Topic: Flaming Lips Dark Side of the Moon

For those of you that aren't as Hip as me smile The Flaming Lips. Grammay award winning artists from Oklahoma City have reinterprated Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. It has been released on Itunes. Not recomending anybody buy it but the samples are worth a listen even if only to scratch your head and say WTF?

The Lips are the only thing since Leon Russel other than Reba Macintire and Toby Keith to come out of Oklahoma even though the Kings of Leon lived here awhile. There is a street downtown named after them and their manager Scott Booker is the director of the Acadamy of Modern Music here which is affiliated with the school of the same name in London. Scott is also a fan of Joe's.

My sons have been fans for awhile and that is how I first heard of them. They are a bit too alternative for my taste but I heard an interview discussing this project on NPR. It didn't sound pretensious when they explained how the project came about so I though I would give it a listen. Don't think I would buy it but take a listen to the samples it might make interesting discussion.

Re: Flaming Lips Dark Side of the Moon

Sounds intriguing.  I would normally get a bit defensive when someone mucks around with one of my favourite albums of all time by my favourite band, but I was in a small record shop a few years ago where they used to play an album of the day.  This particular day they were playing a reggae-d up version of DSOTM called Dub Side of the Moon.  After my initial indignation, I listened to the album, enjoyed it and then bought it.  It's now one of my favourites.  So I might just give The Flaming Lips a hearing.
