Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

Well we just got another 7 inches today.  That makes a total of 60 inches SO FAR this winter (normal is 20 inches).  And more is due tomorrow (but right now it sounds like ice and rain - oh joy) with more to come on Saturday.  And Amsterhammer - I would love to stay home but I have one of those jobs that never gets cancelled (just like Cathy and so many others here I am sure).  I'm batting about .900 for working on snow days - I was only off for the first one we had.  I hate getting up at 4:30 am to shovel (and so does my husband).  Spring can't come soon enough.

Stay warm everyone.

I understand that Chicago is 'snowed in'.

Dear Patty - you can't be at work today too? How deep is it in Iowa?

George, I'm in the Chicago 'burbs. Most of the counties have snow emergency driving bans so I'm just chillin at the hotel this morning. It's driveable IMHO (hell, I'm from Buffalo!) but I don't want to get a ticket.

FWIW Punxatawney Phil did NOT see his shadow, so according to marmot mythology this means an early spring.

That works for me!  big_smile

Hi George,
At work at 7:15 am.   Just a foot here, with lots of drifting.  Dug out early,    car tires were literally frozen to the ground....just east and south of here 17 to 24 inches....so I won't complain about 12.......but cousin Bill S over there in Chicago, now that's another story......my sis lives there, too...imagine she is getting a day off.

I am so glad I got a BonaBeanie, it has served me well.  Putting it on makes me think of Joe and of all of you........warm & fuzzy    wink

Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

Yep, we got hammered as well in Packerland. Depending upon where one lives in southeastern Wisconsin, we received anywhere from 15 to 20 inches of snow along with 50 to 60 mph winds last night. It's now sunny, but still blowing out there and I have yet to snow blow any of it. Today it will will be me, the snow blower and Mother Nature in hand to hand combat. Who will win? Unknown at this time.....

Interesting note and to show you how smart dogs are; my yellow lab by the name Goldie went outside first thing to go to the bathroom. She actually had to jump from snow drift to snow drift just to get to an area all the while trying to figure out where the least snow was. She found an area under a sparse pine tree and went round and round under the branches of the tree at least 4 to 5 times to stomp the snow down. Then finally, she did her job. Now I ask you, how many humans would have figured that out? wink

Keep Warm, smile

Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

Here in the Dallas area we have about an inch & a half of ice. And it looks like snow is heading our way again.
My work shut down and we are having rolling blackouts.

Yesterday the news was following the buses carrying the Packers and the Steelers to "JerryWorld" with their own sand truck entourage. A lot of people not happy about that.

I'm enjoying it because any day away from my grey cubicle is a good day.

Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

Well, I think they'll need to update the snow totals around here. When I opened my garage door, I measured the snow in front of it at 23 inches and thought it had drifted that high. Nope, it was 23 inches all the way down my driveway and much deeper where it had drifted near my daughter's parked car. This is the largest single snowfall I've seen since we built our home and that was 21 years ago. Amazing how much there is! Even my 8 hp Simplicity snow blower had a tough time with it and that thing is from the '80s and built like a tank! smile

Just another dusting in the NY North Country!  And at least you're  little warmer too.  My Grandpa's (yup) 60's Ariens can handle it all, 24 inches of severely "packy" wet snow, easy as cake......except when the chute got caked with the snow.  Tank indeed.  Why am I NOT enjoying this 65F sunny weather???  neutral  Must be coming down with Decabinated Fever?  tongue. Somebody please hit me with a snowball! It did snow in San Diego once not on the record for the record, not looking promising for that today! So far.

Roy get up there and shovel off your roof if it's piled high up there. All you need is some rain to add weight and you'll have some major problems!

Yes! We always knew when we had to shovel off our roofs. It was easy.  If we wondered if we should, we did. If you have an unusual amount, no hesitation.  many days we had to have all family members take a turn at it to get the tough job completed, often just before another lambasting. Sun roof no good in a snow storm when there isn't a smidgen of sunlight....which means skylights too, especially vulnerable if the don't see much snow.

How's the weather in yer neighborhood 2day? It's only 72 in Benicia so Karen & I are headed to Napa for a wine p/u and 77 degree weather. The Valley is a sea of yellow mustard plants in bloom and gives it an even brighter look under clear blue skies. Say what you will about the Golden State, but on days like these it's the only place to be.

Re: Winter 09-10 now Winter 10-11

Oklahoma panhandle set an all time record low of -19 it was a toasty 3 degrees that same morning last Wednesday. 8 inches of snow on the ground with more on the way. I'm thinking green but I'm turning blue.
