Topic: Coach House

Going again to see Joe at the Coach House in SoCal. Last gig there was a sellout so there's a heads up for fans to get your tix early. Fans were on the street before the show begging for extras. Sound was a bit muddy last time but the venue is ok with the pre show dinner seats having down front seating. Two nights in a row! We are blessed.

I'll be there.  Been a fan for a few years, but this will be my first opportunity to see him live.  Got dinner reservations so I can get a seat close to the stage.  I hear the food sucks at the Coach House, but I'll get over it.

Can't wait to hear Smokin' Joe kick some arse.

Re: Coach House

Dinner reservations don't necessarily mean you'll be real close to the stage. However, if you talk to the guy with the chart who is seating people and ask him what's the cost to sit up front, he will direct you to another guy who will walk you away from the rest of the people and tell you it's an extra $20 a seat. That's how I ended up sitting dead center, first row with Joe standing over me for most of the show. At least that's the way it was almost 2 years ago. Hey, I guess it's the California way.

I live in Wisconsin and we generally don't play that game.

You heard right about the food, average at best. The steak was ok but with Joe playing, who cares. I didn't pay the 20 and got some pretty good seats right of stage and 15 feet back in January with the wife and kids. No problem with the view. Enjoy your first live show, you are in for a treat. It will be one of the best acts you have ever attended. I have seen all the best from Hendrix on and Joe is right in there with all of them and ahead of most.

Re: Coach House

You're right Rick, really based on how they seat people, there really aren't many "bad" seats in the house. Since we traveled out there specifically to see Joe, we wanted to be right up front. We had dinner reservations, but they weren't that close to the stage, that's when the "alternative" seating method was asked about.

In any case, you're also right about the show and Joe. Rockfarmer, you're in for the show of your life. Joe and the Guys always bring it, so strap into your chair and get ready to fly! cool

Wow Bluesman, all the way from the frozen tundra to see Joe. We are really lucky living here in San Diego. I have seen Joe live 4 times in 3 years within an hour's drive. He must like the locale, being so close to his home in LA. I bought seats for my oldest son and inlaws in Germany as a treat to introcuce them to Joe in Berlin and they were blown away too. I think he is bigger in Europe than in the US. Cheers.

Re: Coach House

I'll tell you Rick, it was a fantastic four days. My friends Jacque, Ken and I took off from Green Bay and it was -6 degrees F. When we arrived in California it was +65 F and lots of things were green, what a change! Now THATS the kind of whether people should have on January 31st. smile

Actually, we caught two shows, one was at the Coach House and then the next night at The Galaxy Theatre in Santa Anna. Joe and the Guys tore the roof off both venues. Great memories!!

Re: Coach House

Just read that Wednesday is Joe's 20th anniversary on the road. Damn,:( I got tix for Tuesday. May just have to go both nights now. Maybe he'll break out a taste of Black Rock as a surprise for the occasion. Has he ever played the same venue two nights in succession before?

Many times. I've seen him play as many as four nights straight in one venue myself - the lounge at the Oneida Casino near Green Bay - and he has had 2, 3 and 4 day runs at other venues mainly prior to 2007.

If it were me, I would definitely go both nights. Even if he played the exact same set list it would be worth it, IMO.

Re: Coach House

I once saw 2 shows in one night - that was heaven.  Have also been 2 out of 3 nights.  No regrets here. Go.  There is no such thing as too much Joe. big_smile

Re: Coach House

OK, my arm is officially twisted. Will have to consult with my banker to see if the expenditure is allowed. If it isn't sold out Wednesday, I'm all over it. Like you say, there is never too much Joe.

Re: Coach House

Well, guess my karma is on the hot burner. Just won a pair of tix for the Wednesday show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

San Diego's local blues station 88.3 fm was giving them away in a promotion by the Coach House. I let the dj "T" know it was a 20th anniversary show. He had no clue and said the deal was dropped on him with no notice. Didn't have any JB cuts to air even. My beloved is bouncing off the walls right now. (she is a Bonaholic too) Rick.

Sounds like you need to get some JB to that radio station ASAP. MoJoe magic should never be underestimated.! Good Karma indeed. I hope all that attend help make Joe's 20th anniversary one for the records!!! Ironic it's Veteran's Day!    Cathy

Well, since I'm a vet it's my reward. The show on the FM public station is called Every Shade of Blue and T has been running it for 30 years. Last night he was running a lot of classic Buddy Guy cuts, extra tasty. Any blues fans in San Diego area should check out his Saturday evening show. He said he will attend the show on wed so I will make sure he gets a grip of Joe's best. Rick.

Re: Coach House

Hey Rick why don't you go for the trifecta and hit the HOB gig in Hollywood Thur., first drink is on me since you're a vet, I tip my hat to you. Besides seeing Joe it's the finals for the Guitar Center Blues guitar competition, we just might see the next "big thing".

Re: Coach House

J Dawg,
Thanks for the hat tip. I will have to pass on the HOB date.  I had seriously considered it but making that run from San Diego to the heart of the beast on a work night would put a strain on my old bones, much less the return drive which would surely put me back at home no sooner than 4 am. On the brighter side though, with the better half's approval, I am taking my daughter in law to the show on Wednesday since she had to go to class on Tuesday and couldn't make it with the rest of us. Might raise some eyebrows when this vintage gent shows up with some hot asian eye candy on a date. She is a stone fox and another Bonaholic. Rick.
