Topic: New ZZ Top DVD

Came out Tuesday, picked it up last night. "Double Down Live" - great 2 disc set. 1st disc 1980 Rockpalast show/concert (22 songs) from Deguelo Tour ( I've watched this whole disc, worth the money alone), 2nd disc concert footage(11 songs)  and behind the scenes from 2008 (haven't watched this disc yet).

I'm very excited as yesterday I also ordered my tickets to see ZZ Top at the local casino this November.

Although I've only watched the 1st disc I still highly recommend this DVD set.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: New ZZ Top DVD

if ever there was a case of good band being screwed by their label this has to be it. For many years the boys have been churning out stuff with fanny adams promotion from their label. Hope it changes soon.

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:

Earlier this year we had this little piece of Tejas delivered to München. We paid about 50€ for the ticket and it was worth each cent.

Yes, I know what you're both saying but Günter, they're asking about 66.5€ plus service charges for this show. My daughter's teeth, or lack thereof, is costing a small fortune. Check that, a medium fortune and so, I need to pick and choose who I see at this time. Still, I'm very torn because believe it or not, I've never seen ZZ Top live and they are playing at one of my favorite theatres in Milwaukee. I checked and can get balcony tickets for about 63.2 € and actually, that's were I prefer to sit anyway.

I guess time will tell....

Roy

P.S. Hey Paul, remember you saw them at Summerfest a year ago for free? Well, for the price of entering Summerfest; a mere pittance!

Re: New ZZ Top DVD

Now I don't have so long to wait - four days and counting.
Really looking forward to it. They never had a real impact in the UK until Eliminator, and I owe Joe a big thankyou for turning me on to their earlier stuff through his Planet Rock radio show.

Hard to believe they have another DVD out already - they will have to go some to beat "Live from Texas". That's one superb DVD - would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Now where did I put my stetson?

That was actually at the Harley 105th in 2008. Also saw them at the Riverside this past year for about what these tickets cost. In the scheme of things this would be no more than spending money on tickets and a hotel for a show in Chicago. Besides this is ZZ TOP.

Watching the second disc now. French interveiwer asks Billy to define the blues. He says the word should be find. How do you find the blues. You must find it first. Harder to do today he says.

Re: New ZZ Top DVD

Saw them this year.

What a wonderfully mixed band. Utterly mesmerizing.

Couldn't get enough of that bass sound....and of course, the harmonics!

Ok, It's the morning after..... Superb show!! The support band, Steel Panther, were quite good.... a cross breed of Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue..... you get the idea ? but entertaining!

The ZZ Boys were in good form... The sound was  perfect ... the light show was good we had a good time rocking the night away. We got to hear the old blues stuff, as well as the popular stuff,... Gimme All Your Lovin'.... Legs, ... You Got Me Under Pressure,... Sharp Dressed Man.... and ended up with,  Tush ....... Superb show!!!.... smile

Re: New ZZ Top DVD

Brack - we saw ZZ Top the previous night in Wolverhampton - what a show they put on. One of the best gigs I've ever been to, and that's saying something. Billy and Dusty have to be the coollest old dudes on the planet - they really know how to entertain - the interplay and brilliantly choreographed subtle moves between them put a smile on my face all through the gig. And you say they finished with Tush? You disappoint me Brack - London folk clearly need to show a little more effort in their appreciation - we got em out again for a second time, and after a little discussion they treated us to an unscheduled "Tube Snake Boogie". Brilliant performance!

As for Steel Panther - these guys are not to be taken seriously. I thought "Here we go - another big hair eighties throwback band who think they are it" But ten minutes into their set I was roaring with laughter as I'd got the joke. They are basically a send up of all those big haired eighties bands - hilarious routines and lyrics as long as you can cope with the (excessive) bad language.

Here's a few shots I took at the Wolverhampton gig. Not my usual standard - had to rely on the compact camera, and we were a little way back, but i think they capture some of the atmosphere.

Re: New ZZ Top DVD

I saw the band on their 1980 tour and it was just too cool.  I've had the trading circle DVD of this show for a long time, but it's great to get an official release of this Rockpalast show.  Hearing Pearly wail and having a great document of this little 'ol band in their prime is definitely worth the price of the DVD alone.  I am so glad they finally chose to release this DVD and being on the heals of the Texas DVD is not a bad idea in my opinion.  What other band can be true to their style for nearly 40 years and still be as relevant in 2009 as they were in 1973?  The were cool then, and still pull it off today.

ZZ Top rocks the blues baby!

Gibson 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Reissue, Gibson LP Standard Faded CSB, Gibson Gary Moore LP Standard, Epi Joe Bonamassa GT LP, Epi Zakk Wylde LP, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Jackson Randy Rhoads V, ESP/LTD George Lynch Kamikaze, EVH Striped Series R/B/W, Fender/Squire John 5 Telecaster, Fender Joe Strummer Relic Telecaster
