Topic: Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam - Melbourne 20th October
Went to see Davy Knowles last night, and it was a fantastic gig. I wasn't sure how many people would be there as he is not well known here. If I had to guess I would say 100 - 150 people were there? The crowd were pretty good in their response to the songs, and Davy seemed genuinely pleased with the reaction.
The setlist was very close to the one Phil posted in his Borderline review but with a few exceptions http://www.jbonamassa.com/forum/viewtop … 71#p122071
An additional cover he played was You Don't Love Me (John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers) - storming version.
Davy played a couple of new tracks (he apologised in advance in case they stuffed them up), one was called This Old Bridge, and I guess it was in a 'Riverbed' kind of style.
For the encore Davy grabbed the acoustic and they played Roll Away (which I was really glad to hear), and then another new track called In A Little While. It was a sort of bar room boogie type of track with rolling piano - a great uptempo song to finish off the set with.
So with the exception of Roll Away it was quite a rocking set. I took some videos, but they were only on my compact camera so the sound got really distorted - Roll Away seemed to turn out ok though. After the show Davy was happy to sign autographs (got my copy of Roll Away signed) and pose for pics. He seemed to be a super nice guy.
