How was it? We see them Friday night at the House of Blues, Orlando. Started listening to the new album today for the first time and I really like it. (The first half of it anyway)

A nice country rock band called Truth and Salvage Company opened up for the Crowes and their little more then half an hour set was pretty good.
The Crowes almost two hour set was eclectic in nature. I have been seeing these guys live since 1992 and part of the Crowes charisma is never seeing them do the same set list twice.
But I have to admit I did expect them to focus on a lot of new material and I was right. Folks in back of me wanting to hear Remedy probably should realize that was the Crowes of old. 1990-1992. People have to realize this is 2009 and these guys are expanding their repertoire. You got doses of rock, country, soul, blues in the mix last night that I think appealed to everybody. I for one enjoyed the hell out of it and was sorry to see it end. It just didnt last long enough for me.
Of the best rock concerts I have seen in Atlanta this year, Govt Mule comes first. The Crowes second.
These bands are the last of a dying breed playing rock in its truest sense.
They are the leading jam bands of 2009.

Glad you enjoyed Blueser...Your pals in the back will probably get Remedy one out of every three shows. They always play some hits, but like you said, the best part is you never know which. I've seen um 26 times

Just curious, but which songs off the new album are your favorites? Mine are "The Last Place That Love Lives" and "Lady of Avenue A" - both of them just get into my head. "So Many Times" sounds like the ghost of Gram Parsons is flowing through Chris Robinson. I also like the CS&Nish "What Is Home" and "Been a Long Time". I just feel the new album reaffirms the Crowes as one of America's finest bands. A top five release for 2009.

Good question Curby...totally agree about the Crowes being one of the best in business. I've probably already played the disc a hundred times at this point. My favorite on the album is probably Good Morning Captain. It definitely has everything I love about the Crowes...great riff with slide guitar right over it and Chris' tearing it up on vocals. Great live song..one of their best in a while...the song is a complete party. Has a bit of The Band feel, which makes sense as it was recorded at Levon Helm's Barn. For the same reason, I love Been a Long Time...the jam at the end puts me right into the middle of any of the 26 shows of theirs I've seen.
It seems you like some of the slower ones and the ones with Rich heavier on the vocals. Love Avenue A...I think that some of the fans are ignoring the sheer beauty of the second part of the album. Have you heard Chris and Rich Brother of a Feather...I think it's some of the best stuff they have ever done. Cold Boy Smile is a gem. On this album, I love Appaloosa as one of their ballads. It's just such great great music it's hard to pick just a couple.

Brothers of a Feather's Live at the Roxy is a great album. I just love the covers: "Over the Hill" and "Roll Um Easy", but for some reason my favorite is "Magic Rooster Blues".
