Re: Fans in the UK

listen mate you gotta stop telling me you run a guitar store, if i turn any greener i'll look like the hulk-minus the muscles! must be heaven turning up for work and taking your pick of guitar to have a bash on, any Giggliotti's in store?.
any news on the boss micro BR yet?
i was going to post a thread but you are probably the best qualified to answer, so here goes i have not been playing guitar for that long and am thinking of getting a better one, some time in the new year. I bought a Squire strat just to see if i would stick with it and to be honest i'm hooked so i'd like to "upgrade"so to speak.
would it be better to buy new or go for a 2nd hand better quality/known make?
what you you recommend  for around the £300 mark.
any thoughts would be welcome.
cheers

Re: Fans in the UK

Oh it's jus a job like any other wink. I contacted Gigliotti Guitars (twice) but so far they've ignored me.....I don't give up that easily. Still waiting on the Boss, we're an independent store so sometimes we have to wait until the bigger chain-stores get thiers.

As for you're upgrade, I'm sure everyone will have an opinion but....if you like Strats then a Mexican Standard will be a good upgrade from the Squier. If you can go a little higher in price I'd suggest a Mexican Classic reissue. Second hand is good because you won't see much, if any, of a financial loss when you come to re-sell. If you fancy a Les Paul style guitar then take a look at Tokai Love Rocks - the made Korean stuff is within your price range. Ibanez are turning out some pretty cool stuff right now and it isn't all pointy headstocks and locking trems. Hope this helps. Drop me a line if you want to know anything else.

Re: Fans in the UK

I do like the les paul but was told that they are difficult to play as they have wider necks, i've also been told this is a load of b*ll*cks. so if you could put me right on that score please do.
didn't SRV play a Tokai for a while? is the model actually called a "love rock" as the local dealer has some dodgy looking characters there and don't want to piss one of them off big_smile
waht sort of price do they go for?

Re: Fans in the UK

They may have a slightly wider neck but as with most guitars, give it time and you'll get used to the neck profile. Love Rock is the Tokai version of a Les Paul. There are quite a few variations. The Korean built versions (of the LP Standard) has a RRP of £399. Not trying to sell you a guitar but just to give you an idea of the 'street price', we do them for £299.

i've tried 3 times to send you an email but to no avail so here goes. I know that Fenders are valued on where they are made Mexican cheaper than USA made ones, is that the same with Tokai's as i've seen they are made in japan, china and korea (seen on ebay) if so which are cheapest/dearest?
also are gibson's made in different countries and if so how are they valued?
there does seem to be a lot of different makes of "les paul copies" are Tokia's one of the better ones?

Re: Fans in the UK

Tokai are generally made in Korea and Japan. The Japanese guitars are more expensive than the Korean. I'm not aware that Tokai have any Chinese guitars.
All Gibson are made in the USA.....not to be confused with Epiphone which is now owned by Gibson. Epiphone's are generally made in Korea but you may find original (pre Gibson) used Epiphones that are made in the States available on Ebay etc. There are a bucket load of guitar makers, all making copies of just about everything. If you can't afford a Gibson then you could do a lot worse than a Tokai or Epiphone.

Not yet but there may well be some I guess. Why not get tickets for the London show and then see what else comes up? You know you're gonna want to go to more than just one gig smile

thanks for clearing up a few things. 1 or 2 of the tokai's on ebay have country of origin as china, just curious that's all. anyway it's all been sorted now.can't wait for your verdict on the boss. as i say ui'll keep you in mind when the time comes. sorry the emails didn't get through perhaps the email link doesn't work as i have tried to email jane H with no luck.
know anywhere in the UK that will have the cd/dvd "so it's like that" edition??

Re: Fans in the UK

There are a couple of far eastern companies advertising guitars on ebay that you should stay away from. I don't have thier names but I've seen the guitars. We had a guy come to us with what he thought was a Mexican Strat but there wasn't a single bit of it that was Fender. He'd paid over £250 for a piece of unplayable junk. We've also seen a very good Ibanez Jem copy that wasn't the real thing, worthless too...........so be careful. I'll let you know if I find the DVD. The CD is on Amazon.co.uk.

Re: Fans in the UK

know what you mean about ebay. just looking for reference more than anything.can't ever see me parting with a pile of cash for a guitar from there. while you're waiting on the boss processor any new effects pedals coming on the market for this xmas that are worth looking out for. keep in mind i'm a VERY medicore player, only be needed for bedroom gigging smile

Re: Fans in the UK

It isn't new but my favourite FX pedal is the Boss rotary simulator (sounds like a Leslie cab) with a cool light display.
