Re: The NFL - National Football League

Now the 49ers need to mend some fences with Alex Smith with Manning signing with Denver, good luck with that move Peyton. Denver may not dump Tebow since Brady Quinn has signed with KC. The NFL QB carousel is really gonna get spinning now. If Alex Smith knows what's good for him he'll suck it up and resign with SF. Maybe Tebow is destined to return to South Fla., @ at least the Phins could put butts in the seats with him playing there.

Musical QB's. Blood in the water and the sharks are circling. Who says that this whole parade won't be a huge backfire for more than one team? Way too many toes have gotten smashed and hard feelings will endure. I expected Smith to sign with the fins and leave the 49ers twisting in the wind. He still may since their confidence in him has been exposed.

Smith is back in the Bay Area, but not commenting as a few local reporters followed him through SFO after he landed. Safe money says all those involved rub a little dirt on their ego's and Smith signs and everybody moves on. Rick, maybe you haven't heard yet, but David Garrard signed with Miami today. The big question now is where will Tebow be Tebowing this season?

I hadn't heard that JDawg. Now Tebow is looking and where is the question. Would he stay on as an understudy in Denver? That neck on Peyton is an unknown factor and I'd want some insurance. It's been quite a while since he played.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Nice of Roy to send his backup QB our way. I'm cautiously optimistic. Keep an eye on Seattle this year. Schneider and Carroll have somewhat quietly done a pretty good job rebuilding the Hawks over the last 2 years while leaving themself with plenty of cap room. If we can avoid the injury bug, I think we'll hold our own against division rival SF this year...

Re: The NFL - National Football League

All's well that ends well in Ninerland. Alex Smith has resigned, as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Peyton's agent pulled a Barry Zito on the Broncos, but I wonder how much of that contract is guarenteed? Especially if he goes down with further neck problems as early as pre-season. IMO, Smith didn't need a new team, just a new agent. Alex is represented by Tom Condon, the same guy that represents Peyton Manning. I don't think Condon was putting his heart & soul into Alex's negotiations in the past few weeks......ya think????

Joey Porter explains Tim Tebow: ‘He’s the Justin Bieber of the NFL’

“Anybody who brings him in right now, you would think they’re trying to do it for ticket sales. So it’s just like, it’s good to have a Justin Bieber because you’re gonna get a whole of (fans). That’s what I compare it to. He’s the Justin Bieber of the NFL.”

Goodell did the right thing today. Lowered the boom in a huge way unlike any other sanction. Well done! Player safety should always be paramount.

Not a done deal since the Jets read the fine print about kicking back $5million+. The Jaguars are still interested if the Jets deal falls apart.

An interesting speculative take from elsewhere re: the sanctions handed out today.

It will be interesting to see how much the suspensions affect the Saints, who would have been a SB favorite coming off their very strong season in 2011. Payton I would say is pretty irreplaceable, an offensive genius, one of the best coaches in the NFL. Hard to see his absence not hurting the team, which has also managed to alienate their most important player, Brees, in the re-signing process. Now suppose Payton is fired, loses his job permanently. It’s conceivable that Brees, already unhappy over not getting a long-term deal, might decide he doesn’t want to stay with NO. You think Manning’s availability caused a feeding frenzy in the NFL? Brees would be a bigger catch, IMO. He’s three years younger, no current health problems, and just came off one of the best seasons any QB has ever had. Manning is a gamble for the Broncos. Brees isn’t a gamble at all. He doesn't have a lot of years left in the NFL, but he does have enough so a team taking him would have time to look for a replacement.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

This is probably the end of Payton's career in the NFL. He's damaged goods now and the stink of this will never go away.  The loss of draft picks will cripple the team for years. The thing about Brees is on the mark. He just lost a year and a good chance for a ring.
Tebow's carousel ride will be fun to watch.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

The Broncos met the Jets half way on the money and Tebow is now a J-E-T Jet! However the Jets just gave Mark Sanchez a new 40.5 Million deal, so I think Tebow will walk the sidelines for the time being.

I never for a second thought Manning would play for my 49ers.....Alex has to prove to me that last year was no fluke, I have serious doubts.....oh by the way, I would take RG3 any day over Luck, that kid is going to light the NFL up......Andy Luck is way overated....yes you read me right, and his release is slower than most NFL starters.....hey just my opinion....yeah, I know what "they" say about so called opinions....whatever

I hope you're right Shreddy, because the Skins have reportedly mortgaged a chunk of the future to the Rams to get RG3 in...and that was way before rumors of their involvement in 'Bountygate' and this little item today -

The Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys have filed a case with an arbitrator challenging the salary cap reductions imposed on them by the NFL for the way the two teams structured players’ contracts in the sport’s season without a salary cap in 2010.

The Redskins were given a $36 million salary cap reduction over two years by the NFL, at least half of which must be absorbed this season. The Cowboys were given a $10 million subtraction over two seasons.
