Re: The NFL - National Football League

Very well aware down here RiverCat. Our baseball team will always struggle unless they get lucky in the farm system and trades, due to the disparity in revenues.
The Spanos family, owners of the Chargers, are too many fingers in the pie folk too. City of Industry is jonesing for a stadium with a team in LA, offering a sweet deal on a new stadium for a team. Our stadium is old, in need of repair and the Chargers have been angling for a new one, of course paid for by the city. The NFL has stated that a Superbowl will never again be played at Jack Murphy. We paid for extensive upgrades to get the last one here. The NFL then raised the ante and said the former upgrades weren't good enough for a future event.
San Diego, because of the year-round outdoor availability of public, free areas like the bays, lakes, huge parks and beaches with mostly perfect weather, is a hard town to sell pro sports in. San Diego loves a winner and shuns a loser. San Diego, like many  cities in California, is broke and there is not majority support for a new facility. I see them going in the next few years.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Well Cat in these mucked up economic times I think the NY approach of a shared facility makes the most sense for the Raiders & Niners. It's worked for years back there and both teams still refer to themselves as New York, even though they play in Jersey. Santa Clara has cleared a number of hurtles to swing a stadium deal and a joint venture might seal the deal. As far as the A's situation goes there's nothing I'd rather see than a waterfront stadium in or adjacent to Jack London Square in downtown Oakland. I have a better chance of winning the lottery than that scenario happening nowadays. Just last week KNTV 11 in San Jose showed an artist rendering of Cisco Field planned to be built next to HP Pavillion in downtown San Jose. The only thing holding back this plan is the Giants relinquishing there MLB approved fan rights to the South Bay. Do the math, San Jose is further from SF than Oakland, but once upon a time the league allowed SF the rights to the Peninsula and South Bay. That may have been a condition to letting the A's move here from KC back in '68. The dollars are in San Jose, but Bud "The Boob" Selig doesn't seem to want to deal with the rights situation, but maybe once he steps down, which can't happen soon enough, a resolution might happen. Pro sports are all about M-O-N-E-Y and they say money talks, BS walks. Silicon Valley looks like the logical solution for the San Jose A's, which actually rolls off the tongue nicely. I'm sure you're aware that Raley Field was built with easy expansion plans to accomodate the A's if Sacramento had been able to lure them to the River City. Unfortunately that never happened. I'd travel to Sacto. any time for baseball rather than south to the "Pit"

Dem 'Phins is on fi-yo! I was an eyewitness to Stanford goin' down in flames to the Ducks last night down on the Farm. The "Suck for Luck" sweepstakes may not be as big a concern now, unless you're a 'Skins fan.....OH! sorry G Dawg, but I think I prophessed that Grossman & Beck wouldn't get it done. Andrew Luck would be like marryin' up.

The Colts have a lock on the Suck for Luck stakes. We can't even get that right.  sad

No problemo, Funky D. I predicted a loss. I'm astonished that they even managed three field goals.  sad

Glad to see the Bears show up today...following their favorite recipe: force turnovers, play good defense, add some great special teams and spring Devin Hester.
Still a lot of football to be played, but it looks like the Bears have righted the ship!

Seriously Jdawg, I don't see the Skins winning another game. Which leads me to my wishful thinking theory....just bear with me before y'all start laughing......

This last weekend's results vastly increased our chances in the great 'SuckforLuckStakes'!  tongue

All we need is for the Vikings, Panthers, Rams and Fins to each win another game....or two.....not an impossibilty considering their respective recent upturns in form.......while our form continues to nose dive to new depths of incompetence........while at the same time Peyton makes a miracle recovery after stem cell surgery in Europe, so that an ambitious kid like Luck will refuse to go there and sit on the bench for several more years. He'd surely rather go somewhere that needs him desperately and is willing to build a future sqaud around him.

And that, my friends, is how the Redskins could sneak a last minute score in the SFL stakes.  cool

The paycheck that comes with being the #1 pick makes riding the bench very comfortable, a crash course in economics that a Stanford grad would have no problem understanding.

I am just curious, the cat that I am.  What if the Colts do end with the 1st Pick?  What will they do?
If Manning decides to leave, will the Redskins make a play for him?

Re: The NFL - National Football League

If Luck's value doesn't diminish that #1 pick could be a huge trade option to another team desperate for a QB. The big "IF" is Mannings status

That's a good point.  So Hammer if you can't get Luck through the front door, what would you be willing to trade for him?  It's going to be an interesting Draft Day.

Actually, I am thrilled we have this exciting football season after looking at the NBA.  I thought the football season may be only 8 games and happy they were able to settle things for a productive season.  The NBA, whole other story and showing what can go wrong.  Gonzaga, here I come.

sad news for the Packer nation and NFL fans as a whole. This guy was a great one in his time, wish him the best in dealing with it. I watched him on many a Sunday with my dad.

Denver 17, NY Jets 13
SUN, NOV 20
Tampa Bay at Green Bay
Carolina at Detroit
Jacksonville at Cleveland
Oakland at Minnesota
Buffalo at Miami
Dallas at Washington
Cincinnati at Baltimore
Arizona at San Francisco
Seattle at St. Louis
Tennessee at Atlanta
San Diego at Chicago
Philadelphia at NY Giants
MON, NOV 21
Kansas City at New England

Anyone else gonna play? I'm honest enough to admit that I would have gone for the Jets. I think the St. Louis and Atlanta games will be real close, all the others should go to form.

I reckon.  big_smile

10 and 0 and the defense is still pretty porous. Quick turn around for the Packers and Lions as they will face off on Turkey Day. We're having the entire family over including all of the niece/nephews and great nieces and nephews. It's going to be one of those family gatherings where everyone tries to talk louder than the next person. Ah yes, it should be fun!

And hopefully, another Packer victory! wink
