Topic: Hello from Oz

Hi All. I just recently discovered Joe, and I am kicking myself I did not hear him earlier. Whilst I grew up listening more to Rock music than Blues, I am appreciating it more and more as I get older.

I have seen some Blues guitarists live - Stevie Ray Vaughan, Roy Buchanan & Gary Moore.

My favourite guitarists are JB (of course), SRV, Gary Moore, Jimmy Page, EVH & Mark Knopfler.

Joe's solo's in Tea For One kill me every time I hear them.

Hopefully he will tour Australia soon.

Re: Hello from Oz

Nobody got back to you on your intro. We're slipping a bit. Sorry about that.

Welcome anyway. I guess Tea for One would have to be one of my favourite covers of Joe. No, actually I think its my favourite even though he doesn't do the vocal. The guitar work is just out of the very top drawer. One of his very best solos. No question. I got him to sign the poster with that strapline - Tea for one - Well, it is our national drink you know!

I'm sure you will get to see him out there soon. He's gradually touching every corner of the globe and his rep is reaching out before him.

Good to have you here. Post regularly. This is a great forum with great insight and humour. There's even a thread in 'Other Topics' about The Ashes, but please - don't go there - its just where Brack keeps a lonely vigil. Don't encourage him big_smile

Re: Hello from Oz

Hiya Grey ...I'm just catching up on all my 'welcomes'. I do like to say Hi to all the newbies.
So, a very warm welcome to you down under.

I know when I first heard Joe I also wondered how he had escaped me til then. You'll enjoy catching up I'm sure.

Hope Joe and the guys make the trip to your part of the world before too long.

Tripsy smile

Re: Hello from Oz

G'day Grey,

Welcome to the world of Joe.

Funny how I 've been through the same journey as you - from Rock to Blues - but I guess it's almost a natural progression with age, and you'll be in good company on here.

Keep an eye on the "Other Artists" section - we'll soon have you expanding your knowledge of the blues.

Ian

Please be in no doubt that this is the REAL ME! Beware imposters........................

Re: Hello from Oz

Hi, and welcome. I am also a latecomer to Joe's music, and also followed the same musical path as you. I think you're right about the age thing. Where in Oz do you live ? I have a sister who lives in Brisbane.

Re: Hello from Oz

Thanks for the welcomes!

I am in Melbourne. I don't talk about the Ashes much  - I was born in England and still can't bring myself to follow the Aussies in cricket :-)

One good thing about discovering Joe late is getting so many "new" albums at the one time. I have A New Day Yesterday & Had To Cry Today winging their way to me as we speak - can't wait to hear them.

I will keep an eye on the Other Artists section.

Re: Hello from Oz

I'm sure the band will hit Austrailia by this time next year Grey, just get familar with all JB's albums and spread the word.
The first show will be sold out no problem if Rick has anything to do with it, probs been burning the band & crew ears for years  big_smile   and Rick will be a most perfect Oz guide
Sun, Sea and Guitar Shops ..... There'll be there soon

Re: Hello from Oz

Hi Grey.

Welcome to the finest forum and the friendliest bunch on the web.
Glad you've discovered Joe.
I am the upper side of 50 and grew up with rock music constantly in my ears.
I now also am more into the blues. Maybe it is an age thing......and yet there are quite a few "young uns" on this forum who clearly love the blues. My son is 17 and he listens to loads of blues based stuff. But he does play guitar which I guess helps.

How long since you leftthe UK ?
Been back ?
I'm so nosey !!

Enjoy your Joe ride cool

Hi Ges,

I left the UK when I was 3 years old in 1968 (we were 10 Pound Poms). I have been back a few times. My wife is English so we lived there for three and a half years from 2000. I would move back in an instant but she has no desire to return.

I was born in Birmingham - I don't have the accent any more though wink
