Topic: MotoGP Day of Champions
Each year, on the Thursday before the UK round of the MotoGP, all the riders from each of the classes (125, 250 & MotoGP) lend their support to raising money for "Riders for Health". This is an organisation that provides motorcycles, maintenance, training and support to supply motor cycles to remote areas of Africa. Motor bikes can get drugs and emergency care to locations that even landrovers have difficulty reaching - fast.
This year's Day of Champions as it is called, offers fans the chance of buying tickets to get into the paddock and pit lane for a day before the racing starts, to check out the machinery, meet the riders, hunt for autographs, be entertained by the rock band "Crash" featuring our own James Toseland on keyboards and vocals (Very very good I have to say) with the highlight being the Riders Auction from about 4pm. At the Auction the rider's memorabilia is auctiond rising huge amounts of money. To get a taste of just how popular Valentino Rossi is just take a look at this clip of how the auction went for a couple of "new" signed T shirts and a couple of caps, then see how much a baseball cap that he was supposed to have worn for the last three races (including his 100th win) fetched - mindblowing.
