Re: The Football Topic

The small market baseball teams and basketball teams are priced so high for the product it is hard for the average fan to afford. Got a pair of free tix to the Padres baseball game and after parking and food and beers it set me back over $120. Tix were another $40 so there is $200 for a game.

Re: The Football Topic

George,

I hadn't seen the new logo, thanks for sharing:lol:

At least Hammers humour continues. That inate ability to laugh at ourselves.......before somebody else does!

Clearly a reference to the source of Sulli's wealth, but it also clearly illustrates what an enormous cockup over the finances has been made.

I have to say I found the press conference strangely refreshing. The questions seemed relatively muted which I suppose was due to the level of frankness being displayed. I am still struggling with the enormity of it and amazed that they are still going given what has gone on.

Football so definately needs a reality check. The only body that can force that to happen are the administrators of the game but I suppose there are just too many vested interests.

Rick B. I can sympathise. If you are a Dad with a couple of kids you could expect to make a similar outlay. Tickets in Germany are a little more competitively priced but demand often exceeds supply, games are often sold out and the Bundesliga is one of the most well supported leagues in Europe. As George said, people want their fix. The World cup here in 06 sparked a renewed interest in the game that has not yet worn off so the prices remain high. Tough for the family man but the clubs need that income to offset against ridiculously high running costs (player salaries).

Bring back the wage cap!

Well Brack, you must be on cloud nine. I watched the match here on FSN and MU looked pretty good against those second-raters.

Re: The Football Topic

I can't imagine why that utter turd of a man, John Terry, should have his own topic here. roll

I don't condemn him for dropping his pants, that's his business. I condemn him for being an arrogant, full-of-himself pratt who, despite his mega-wealth, cannot escape the low-life mind-set from whence he came.

However, much more important to me is the fact that we again took no points from a supposedly 'winnable' game. The pressure is really on Zola now. I think the Brum game Wednesday is a must win for him, or he could be gone.

Ian - I can imagine how gutted you were today. Equally, you'll understand that we're glad Brum did us a 'favour'. wink

I do not think that he can escape his background because he was never given/taught the skills required, however as much as I dislike his characteristics I do respect his determination and drive on a football pitch, - watched the second half of today's match and he played very well. Credit to the guy for putting his head down and getting on with his game. A lot of the kids that I coach support Chelsea and JT, - they do not understand his off pitch actions and only judge him by on pitch behavior.

Re: The Football Topic

I watched the whole match and he was brilliant as usual. His header to Drogba off a crossing pass resulted in the first goal and he was consistently a threat the entire match. Drogba was on fire. Arsenal made a few attempts to get back in the match but were turned away or made bad shots. Played in miserable chilling rain.

Re: The Football Topic

its been his Achilles heel for a long time..... hmm

David Beckham has undergone successful surgery on his Achilles tendon injury as he comes to terms with missing out on this summer's World Cup.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8568689.stm

I was on a pitch playing when a guy picked up this injury, not nice, - you hear it snap!

I think that he will still go to the WC........ not as a player or spectator but in some sort of advisory capacity, - think perhaps it solves a problem for Capello in that Shaun Wright-Phillips and Theo Walcott can still go, - not sure if Aaron Lennon will be fit in time but if he his that is quite a good group of young fast play-makers. And then there's Joe Cole.

Re: The Football Topic

I'm actaully quite sorry. I was hoping he would go. I think he has a lot to offer.

Lot of people *%$# on him but he came from a similar background to Terry and yet he has made so much more of himself. He still has the desire too.

I hope you are right Ian and that he goes in some capacity. He is human like the rest of us but I tend to think he has used his status to positive effect. I think his experience would have been invaluable.

Oh well. All down to Rooney now then
