Re: The Football Topic

Interesting. I'll look out for Amini. He'll have a great opportunity there. Dortmund are a great club again right now. Their manager Juergen Klopp is just tremendous. A real character and a real players manager. They have some of the best young talent around and compete with Munich on a level footing again.

I know my own club West Ham started some close Oz attachments when Harry Redknapp was the manager but I'm not sure we ever saw too many players coming through. The premiership is a tough place to break into for players these days. Earning their spurs in the European leagues would probably be a better bet. Lots of good open football being played there.

Re: The Football Topic

What an ugly scene in Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds last night (a man pushed Chris Kirkland in the face which floored him).
I woke up to see the last 30 minutes of the game. It was very random for Thai TV for board casting football at 3 am. Saw the incident on TV.
It is amazing how many people see the man who basically assaulted other people as "a legend".
Quite sad to see kids admire this sort of people.
Ps. I have yet to read last 3-4 posts here, been sick for a week sad.
Gotta say I like this forum so much.
Take care smile

The absolute highlight of this weekend was the Depor-Barca game. If you haven't seen any of it, enjoy! big_smile

the Police did not hng around on this: - (from BBC website)

Leeds fan Aaron Cawley, 21, from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates' Court to assault and entering the field.

He was given a 16-week jail sentence and a six-year football banning order.

Leeds United said the club intended to ban him from its Elland Road stadium for life.

Only 21.... same age as my little sister.. He just simply kicks his life to dustbin. stupid.

Re: The Football Topic

Yeah, but 2 (Two) banning orders already, spent the afternoon drinking lager, 3/4 a bottle of vodka and then 7 (seven) further pints of cider. This is a career a$$hole. His life was already in the dustbin.

16 weeks is too  short a sentence. Should have been double that with at least half based on an alchohol abuse programme. You see people like this and reflect that the criminal rehabilitation concept of 'A Clockwork Orange' wasn't necessarily a bad idea. (Ahem....my tongue is a little in my cheek here but only a little.........)

Yes indeed. I see mancini is taking the blame for the defeat and maybe thats fair. After it is his job to get Citeh's misfiring misfits to perform as a team and keep their shape.

I really thought Arsene would get the Gunners back on track this year but that defeat to Schalke is a big-time knockback. Don't get me wrong Schalke have their moments and tunred Dortmund over a couple of weeks ago but I didn't think they would do Arsenal away.

As for Dortmund, it shows that their concentration is on Europe this year. League form to date has been patchy and they only lay 4th in the table but they have the capability alright. Good result against Mourinho's millionaires last night too.

Arsenal, Chelsea, just need Spurs to get a tanking now and that would make my week!

Chelsea vs Manchester United - Great match last night!

as a game of of football I think you correct Brack but on another level I am not sure I can agree with you, - but should add that my experience of it was listening to it on the radio (in the car) where the Chelsea crowd's negative response could be heard all too clearly and the aftermath news reports around the formal complaint made by Chelsea against Mark Clattenburg. -I am left really unsure about where this will lead, although something needs to be done about the over aggressive tribalism that the sport is heading towards.  For once I thought Neil Warnock's comments (as reported in the Evening Standard) were a fair reflection on things.

Not for me, it doesn't - "The uploader has not made this video available in your country. "

Though there was nothing wrong with the link I posted, except that it was in Russian.

Don't know if you've ever seen this one, Rick. #3 son and I were fortunate enough to witness this live, the moment Ibra (or Zlatan, as we called him at the time) achieved immortality in Amsterdam.

I've seen that magic show. How to befuddle an entire defense! A man of uncommon skills.

Re: The Football Topic

Amazing goal last night, as is the Ajax example. A man of incomparable skill. Strength, power and the necessary arrogance to try whenever the chance presents itself.

To provide so many "I was there moments...". Love him or loathe him (why?)...he is a true great. I liked how after one of the strikes he blundered into an England player as he followed through...and immediately sought to see if the defender was OK. He isn't always like this I know, but it was a refreshing thing to see at that moment.

A very special talent.

Big North London Derby today - Too hard to call, imo  maybe end in a score draw.
edit: .... OH - ARHHH ---- not that close in the end!  bad luck TFC

... what should have been a brilliant game turned into  disappointing game, - not a dig at the ref as he madet he right decision, more at Adebayor; once again messing up when playing against Arsenal. Spurs are missing a central midfield worker (not a winger)., - Huddlestone is not a Scott Parker. The only positive I can think of is that Arsenal are still very vulnerable at the back so will loose more games; Mertesacker's mistake for the first goal was awful, -  my team of 13 years olds step up like that on occasion!

Felt sorry for Fulham today,- I do like watching them now, must try and go watch a home game this year, - may sound a bit odd not being a fan, but I love the look of that traditional ground and have a lot of respect for Jol.

Re: The Football Topic

Well Ian, normally speaking I wouldn't give a fig for our chances this weekend, but somehow I think that a small upset (a draw big_smile ) may well be on the cards. In any event, the Amsterdam Hammers will all be in attendance in my living room, and we plan on being seriously UP for this one! cool

Re: The Football Topic

I see our former manager 'arry (not Georges favourite person!) is now speaking to QPR. Probably the right man for them just now IMO but I wonder if even HE can keep them up. That said he's a players man so might have a better chance than some.

I never understand why Curbishley is constantly passed over. He would be a better long term choice for QPR in my book.

Re: The Football Topic

I have just experienced the most astonishing weekend EVER with the teams that I support. If I was still living in England, and if I was still a a gambling man, I could have made an absolute fortune this weekend with the following yankee -

1. My Hammers played their best half of football in many years coming from behind to beat the west London chavs. I reckon they would have been around 8/1 at HT because Chavski were all over us in the first half and should have led by more than just one. :win

2. Later on Saturday, Ajax beat PSV by the same score of 3-1 in a hugely important game, thereby reducing their deficit to the top of the table to four points. Ajax also played their best football in a very long time! :win

(Things will be very different tonight as we will have to subject ourselves to the traditional embarrassment by Real Madrid.) sad

3. Barca then won their game 5-1, Messi again scored twice, bringing his total for this calendar year to 84, just one goal behind Gerd 'Der Bomber' Mueller's record that no one thought would ever be broken! Messi intends to score the two goals necessary to own this record too tomorrow night during the last CL group game. Later on Saturday evening, Real Mad. did Barca an additional favor by beating Atletico Mad., which increased Barca's lead over them to six points. :win

4. Then, during the wee hours of Monday night, my Redskins deservedly defeated last year's Super Bowl winners. :win

Every single thing that could have gone 'my way', did so. I'm still savoring every second because I don't expect to see another weekend like this during the rest of my lifetime. :ch
