Topic: Hi from Australia

Hello All

Joined earlier this week and I should have joined earlier. I have 4 or Joe's CDs and the RockPalast DVD. I can't say how much Joe's music means to me - and I can see the same feelings in this forum.

As an older guy (take a guess!), my musical journey, and into the blues was through the English / Irish players such as Clapton, Beck, Gallagher, Page, Kossoff. I had the great joy of seeing Free amongst others.

I have seen Joe's musical journey so far and it will be fantastic to experience where he goes !

I haven't seen Joe live. As far as I know Joe hasn't come to Australia. It's a long way and because Oz has a small population - it tends to discourage  non-mainstream acts from touring. We tend to get some gems coming via blues festivals ie buddy guy, duke robilliard, tinsley ellis etc.

Anyway, I can't say how much I was moved from hearing about Joe's RAH concert. To me the most inspiring thing  in life that I see is people being able to live their dreams. As I looked at the photos, the posts and the vids of the concert, I was deeply moved. Joe has a rare gift and is not wasting it. I truly wish that more people see this.

Welcome Rod,
just in case you are not aware, the RAH is going onto DVD (stong rumours of Blueray too). If you have any probs getting in OZ I would be happy to help you out.

My wife often listens to Australian radio on the net. She's into Mondo Rock, Cold Chisel, Men at Work and
we are both fans of Jimmy Barnes.
Are there any blues stations available from your side of the water?

Hi Jeff

There are no blues-only stations that I know, but blues shows on non-mainstream and/or public radio. Thank goodness for Internet radio. I must admit that I mainly listen to my own music and I track similar artists via links in Amazon and ArtistDirect. I do have to order some CDs from overseas - ie Chris Duarte, Tinsley Ellis and Robben Ford.

Great introduction, I think you mentioned 5 of Joe's 6 biggest influences in your first post (the other is in my forum name), so it sounds like you will fit in here very well. smile

Besides I always knew that there would be people in Australia who would love Joe, for a small population there have been some great artists who have come from your country. I really hope that Joe does make it over there at some point - at the very least I could send my cousins to go and see him! smile

Welcome to the forum. My son lives in Brisbane and is constantly bombarded by me with photos and story's of Mine and Sue's Joe exploits. He now has some of his albums and can't wait for Joe to visit Brisbane. Maybe Joe's waiting for his profile to become more mainstream - which it will, I promise you - which would make it worth the trip to play in major venues in Sydney, Brisbane etc. Australia is such a large place, he would probably opt for one area like the south and east coast major Cities. He could fill a week there with relatively well planned travel arrangements I guess.

I think it would be most likely that Joe comes as part of the East Coast Blue Festival at Easter and plays some other gigs in Sydney etc. Buddy Guy and others have done that. It's the main way to attract blue players to this part of the world.

Your musical journey is pretty familiar to me. I'm 53 and I also saw Free live and in the flesh......and at a fairly small venue big_smile
I also had the pleasure of seeing Mr Page and the band also in the same small venue. Nice memories.

Joe is the real deal.
Easily in the top league and way, way ahead in my listening pleasure.

I really hope you get to see Joe live and get to meet him as lots of us here have.

I too was able to see Led Zeppelin in 1972 - never forgotten Led Zepp4 was hot off the press !

I do hope to see JB one day. He is the real deal and getting better all the time.

Hello to everyone and happy new year

Been a fan of Joe for years.  First seen him in Glasgow, The Ferry, then in England (Mr Kyps, Cheese and Grain, and lastly at Colsten Hall) I emigrated to Australia Sydney last February and  had to miss the Albert Hall  which was sore but more  was to come as Joe then fitted another  Glasgow date at the 02 Acedemy which is where i grew up !  What a bummer.  to have see the man playing in my own backyard would have been awesome.   However, it was a new day yesterday...but its an old day now !! and now that Joe is coming to Sydney that will make up for it. Sydney is about to be blown away that's for sure and Australia will have an awakening.  All the people i have introduced to Joe love him and like me can't wait for his arrival.

I noticed for his UK dates this year he offering VIP tickets (now all sold OUT)  including sound check and the opportunity to meet him before the show.  Is there any chance of similar tickets being offered for his Australian tour? 

When he played the Cheese and Gain  his tour bus would park at the the side of the hall .  Always wanted to chap that tour bus door but for some reason thought i would be a pest.  but not any longer so if the VIP tickets are not available and i see a big tour bus then sorry Joe but i will just have to chap that door and hope for the best.  March 31 can't come quick enough

Hi Rod and Angus. Glad to emeet ya. As you can see, we all have similar tastes. I experienced all of the blues rock of the 60's and on and was fortunate to have attended most of the major acts of the times. Rick.

Welcome aboard!

Like most people I guess, I started with all the same influences you did (Cream and Free for me)

One of the things I've found amazing is that there is so much fresh young talent around, and if you keep an eye on this board, you'll find a whole new arm of your CD collection growing. Sometimes when I've seen some of the young bands around, you do wonder whether we are watching the classic acts that people will be talking about 20 years from now.
