Topic: Historical Question

When I was young I remember a marketing campaign for Esso gas and oil products. (Also known as Exxon) The campaign was about "Put A Tiger Your Tank". The program came out around 1960 if I recall. At that time the song "Ill Put A Tiger In Your Tank" had been written many years prior. I always thought that Esso had copied the lyrics to use in their marketing. I have recently been listening to Joe's "Muddy Wolf at Red Rocks" and he included the song in the program. This has spurred my curiosity and I tried with research to draw some correlation between Esso and Muddy Waters business side. I cant find anything. Turns out that Willie Dixon evidently wrote the song but I cant find any information (on line) that in fact he did. I don't know if I am just stirring up useless stuff but it is something I need to satisfy. Does any one know where a complete list of Willie Dixon songs are and did he write "Ill Put A Tiger In Your Tank"? Does anyone know if there was a royalty paid to Willie from Esso if he did in fact write it? Was it ever an issue? Thanks all!

Re: Historical Question

I know it's Wikipedia and may not be accurate, however,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_s … llie_Dixon

No Tiger in Your Tank there, however http://secondhandsongs.com/work/26365/all shows Willie as being the writer of Tiger in Your Tank.

According to this place  http://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/1 … iger-tails

Tiger in your tank was a slogan created by a Chicago copywriter.  The slogan inspired Buck Owens to write  I've Got A Tiger By The Tail.

So really none the wiser from the internet big_smile
