Re: Bona-Byrd proto

You're welcome Don ...

Still consider myself a newbie since laying down drum sticks for an LP (Studio).  I have never messed with my saddles for intonation ... and it's only been to a guitar shop once (for a set up check up after having it 6 months) ... and he said it was dialed in pretty well from the factory.

Probably off topic / wrong Thread ... but for the real players out there ... do you rely on your saddles? ... at least initially? ... and once you're dialed in ... your good. (baring the bridge caving / collapsing over time.)

I know this isn't the first guitar without a bridge ... but could this Tailpiece only configuration make setting up a real "art form."

(Not an issue for me ... would still fumble through my flat notes / buzzing string sounds ... no matter what the configuration / set up would be!! smile)

The B Byrd is an eye catcher I will say.

according to the Gibson link RoadCase gave us..

100 units.

the picture Joe posted on Twitter the other day looks like 8 racks x 15 guitars per rack.

Saddles on a les paul can be altered simply by changing strings if one is not careful. The are critical to action and intonation. so unless your careful changing your strings you could accidentally change their position. So once dialed in and forget it is not the norm.

Thanks Ron ... I'm still in the "I take a while to change stings ... one at a time ... to avoid "anything" moving" stage smile ... Guess what I was after ... obviously the BonaByrd doesn't "need" saddles ... as some Firebirds don't have them either ... to sound great ...but does setting guitars up without saddles take more "skill" / know how? (of course ... adjusting saddles correctly takes experience / skill.) ... or is it easier / more limited? ... and are guitars w/o saddles more dependent on the manufacturer to make sure all the pieces are put "in place" out of the gate?

Has nothing to do with BonaByrd in particular ... just a question I have had ... and with Googling ... you can throw a dart for an answer.

No such this as a dumb question I hope? smile

Best wishes on your BonaByrd ... hoping you get # ... , but don't want to jinx it, so I won't type it.

PS .. tuning drums is a "pain" .. unless u stay with a 3 piece jazz kit. smile

Cannon Guitars link  says there are only 41 released in the USA....wow that's not many at all...

Re: Bona-Byrd proto

there might be a reason for the limited release, that it's more of a collectors item than anything ? Not that I have the bucks to buy one, but I wouldn't if I did. It just doesn't give me GAS in any way. I think that the color is all wrong, and if you get past that then also don't care for the white pickguard and switch baseplate. Joe had a fire engine red Firebird several years ago, it was a real beauty.
If this had been done in that color or a burst of some sort, with a black pickguard and switch base, then I would be gassy but still unable to afford one. I do think it's great that he has hand numbered and autoed them, that's why it seems more like a collectors item.....just my two cents worth.

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

smile ... you're welcome.  No sir ... I just like seeing where these Byrds land ... and maybe a certain # grabs someone's eye who may be considering a B Byrd.  (Think I did the same when the 50 Skinner's came out.)

(Waiting to see what lands at Sweetwater ... I know a they received 4 or 5 of the Signed Skinner's right out of the gate.)

I did just call Carter's Vintage in Nashville ... #59 that Joe delivered and demo'd smile has sold
... but as of today (11/25/15) ... they have #70 in stock.

And word is #1 has sold here in the US.  (I was really hoping to see it in an Avatar with Skinner #1! ... if the dealer didn't come through ... I feel bad ... would have been great to just see that here!!)

I think I must be the only one that would much prefer the original style of the Bonabyrd.
