Topic: Little League Baseball

This is one of my favorite sporting events of the year. Kids playing ball and being 12-13 year olds on the big stage. The dream of every child that loves the American Game.
San Diego is a hotbed of talent for the game. Several recent winners of this tournament have come from a twenty mile radius here in the county. Qualify out of here and you are a very good team.
This year's team of hotshots is really good with bats that won't quit and pretty good pitching as well. Undefeated so far and absolutely crushing the opponents with a barrage of home runs, winning many games by the "mercy rule" which states if a team is losing by 10 or more runs after the 4th inning they lose immediately.
A sample of how good they are was perfectly exemplified in the game Friday vs Kentucky when they hit 5 home runs in the 3rd inning and the 3rd base umpire was overheard saying "Wow" after the pinch hit grand slam that put them up by 12. Every boy on the team has big power and is a threat to go deep.
Good continued luck to the kids from Spring Valley. A bunch of goofballs that are having the time of their lives and haven't let it go to their heads. They know they are awesome and take it in stride.

Re: Little League Baseball

I think we have had this conversation before either here or Facebook. I still can't believe this is nationally televised. I spent 12 years on a Little League field coaching two teams both my boys through 3 different organizations. AABC, Dizzie Dean and AAU. these three had one thing in common. Real Baseball rules not girls softball. I'm sorry I can't stand to watch this abomination of not only the game of baseball but the exploitation of the kids and their families in this reality series world this is just reality TV.

Maybe I'm just jealous that no TV cameras were at any of my kids games but truthfully I wouldn't want them on me. The games we played we didn't play for the cameras. We played because we loved the game and it didn't matter if nobody was watching. And when we entered a tournament and the opposing team had stacked the deck with an allstar team of early developing boys I mean men, we actually used to call them shavers as in l'il shavers although it had nothing to do with them being little but at 13 they were shaving.

We took the team we had assembled and played the entire season together and won a lot of games and occasionally we rolled a team that wasn't quite at the talent and maturity level we were at and it was a total mismatch and thankfully in most cases there was a mercy rule. We did play in the AAU nationals with no mercy rule. We scored 27 runs on a team from North Dakota in the first inning. That was ugly. We then turned around and got beat by a team from Texas by 40. Those kind of games you pitch anybody that can throw the ball to home plate without a bounce and the other team is trying to strike out because they are too winded from circling that bases. Thank god the cameras weren't rolling of that one.

Sorry to be Debbie Downer here Rick but I really didn't mind it when they televised the finals but the entire tournament is just a little too much for me.

Re: Little League Baseball

If television helps bring kids back to baseball, then Im all for it....please put down your phone and shut off the computer for a couple hours.

Agreed Shreddy. Our local kids were eliminated in the game vs Texas in extra innings and they had a great time all the way. Just kids having fun playing ball.
