Topic: Ear Problem

For the last week or so, I've heard what sounds like maybe a pulse or heartbeat in my left ear, and it's only in the left ear. I'm 29, going on 30, and haven't had this happen before. I've done a little research, and some say that it's Pulsitile tinnitus, something like that. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you make it go away? I started using some ear drops that we had at home yesterday. Used them twice, and used some early this morning when I woke up. Anyway, if anyone has any advice, please let me know, thanks.

Re: Ear Problem

A friend of mine was told that is what he had, after thousands of dollars of tests and MRI's, he went to the chiropractor for back and neck issues after years of being just about deaf in his right ear, and low and behold he could hear again. Good luck with what ever you do.

Please explain more what did they do?

Re: Ear Problem

I don't have any back and neck issues. I'm hoping that mine is just wax build up and easily fixed.

Re: Ear Problem

I would see a doctor as soon as possible. I don't think it's urgent, it could just be from wax.

Re: Ear Problem

I get a kind of pulse or thuuuump in my left ear from time to time. Frequently happens when the weather is changing like rain is coming or if I'm really tired (like just last night and the night before having not had much sleep due to staying up too late still keyed up after Joe's shows) During the day it's incredibly annoying because it makes it hard to concentrate and at night it makes it hard to fall asleep.  Never been to a doctor about it. Usually only lasts a day. I would probably see a doctor if it lasted multiple days because it is so annoying. If you see one about it, let us know what he says. Kind of curious if there is something that would help make it go away.

Re: Ear Problem

If you decide to go to a doctor, I suggest an ear, nose and throat specialist. I had an ear situation a couple of years ago and went to the regular doc. The drops he gave me inflamed my ear and exacerbated the original problem. After a couple of rounds with him and one ER visit (on a holiday weekend), I finally went to an ENT four weeks later and she told me the drops that docs dispense are no good and ENTs don't even prescribe them anymore (she then gave me different drops). The whole event took six weeks and multiple visits before the condition cleared up. I will now always go to ENT first. Please don't discount the chiropractor just because you don't have any neck or back problems. Everything is connected and you might be amazed at what they can do.  My cousin suffered from chronic sinus problems for years and finally found relief after visiting a chiro. GOOD LUCK!

Re: Ear Problem

Hi blues.  Very occasionally I can hear my heart beat in my ear.  Always happens when I lay down at night for sleep.  It doesn't persist for long at night and seldom happens at all, so I've never been concerned about it.

Last year my general practitioner referred me to a hearing clinic after a simple office test by snapping her fingers quietly next to my ears. The test showed hearing loss to certain degrees in each ear due to tinnitus. I was prescribed hearing aids which work, but have annoying side effects such as whistling when in windy conditions and just plain annoying to wear since I'm not a fan of jewelry or watches or anything hanging on me. The biggest downside is the tech told me you can't wear them sporadically without further hearing loss. I have chosen to go without them to prevent this from occurring until I can't get by without them. My insurance only covered X amount of cost and the newer less annoying type that fit into your ear only would be nice to have. By all means Bluesdeluxe see a hearing specialist before the problem manifests itself!

US of A inhabitants should pick up this as first step.  Then, if no improvement, get to an Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist as soon as possible. wink
