Re: Love Ain't a Love Song Live JB Solo

That constant variation of the old standards is what keeps us coming back. Long time fans like me and many others relish  collecting the unique riffs and metamorphoses of the songs only heard in the live sets in our memory banks. Also the random special guest from the local talent, the odd rare guitar loaned to him... all the things that make the tour the go-to for those in the know.

Now canoodling might just be the appropriate term for some of the relationships he has wlth those guitars? roll

Now canoodling, I think you need someone else with you to do that wink

lol  lol   lol      Right you are, Natasha!

"Canoodle" - to hug and kiss another person in a sexual way.

"Noodle" - To improvise on an instrument in an informal or desultory manner.

Heck, now I have to look up desultory...

EDIT:  "Desultory":  not having a plan or purpose; done without serious effort.

So you complete the circle...noodle=desultory=canoodle= A solo not having a plan or purpose;

or in my words and context "fancy word for Fu@@ing around with no direction or plan"

So yes "noodling" is great...like in a soundcheck...

But "canoodling" is bad cause you lose your audience if its disconnected and or disjointed...

imho...soundcheck is where you find and refine your solos...

not in the middle of a song that's supposed to highlight the bands individual members.

But hey its all good and I expect to have a blast at RCMH Jan. 24th!!!!

Ok so you're saying that canoodling is done informally, without a plan or purpose, and without serious effort??   lol   lol   lol   Then why bother?!

Sorry, back to topic...

Like these two a lot...

solo starting to develop...even the staccato up and down runs at the end are starting to flow...

now its begining to vibe with the crowd and keeps their attention...

and is more engaged and getting into it.

Re: Love Ain't a Love Song Live JB Solo

All of Joe's solos are a little different and I imagine are influenced greatly by whatever practicing he's done beforehand, the mood he's in, and the vibe of the show. Not quite sure the point of what you're doing unless you're hoping to influence Joe to change his solo based on your critiques. Hmm, I guess we'll see what happens.

Just following along as the tour progresses as I usually do and expressing my opinion as the solos develop and asking others theirs...as I often do when planning on seeing an artist...

I think it's cool to watch them develop their solos as they travel through the smaller markets and watch their song versions grow and mature as they often come to a peak in places like NYC...

As for influencing JB, well doubt that as I haven't seen him on the forum in awhile at least in the open...but hey got nothing to lose especially with the band having a month off to rework their set-list...

But if he does read this stuff ...well hope he sees my wish-list set-list and plays a "rock and blues show" with blazing solos at RCMH 1/24....and I will be hoping for a great vibe like we had at the last JB show I attended 5/17/13 Beacon Thtr....

It was freaking awesome and my wife and I had a blast!!

In any event I expect to have a killer time at the show and know with JB going "small" on this part of the tour it's hard to blaze a quiet solo... without the reverb he's basically out there naked...yet is managing to kill it a lot of nights... for example this killer version...
