Re: NGD Gibson Les Paul R8 Reissue

I got a chance to give my R8 a good workout last night. The more I play it the better I like it. It is not as easy to play as my Flying V's but the thick tone and sustain is beautiful. It slows down my playing which is a real good thing. You can stay on good phrase ending notes forever.

Exactly how much thicker is the R8 than the R9?
From what I heard, many of our favorite '59s were shaved slimmer like the '60 necks. My '72 custom has a very skinny neck, which was good for learning as a pre-teen, but I don't mind thicker necks. Would just like a description as to how much thicker?

I don't think there's a lot in it...interestingly the current Custom Shop R8s and R9s both have noticeably thicker neck carves than the original 58s and 59s....the neck on my R8 is definitely bigger than a few late 50s LP Juniors and Specials I've seen and a lot of other R8/9 owners seem to think the same
