Topic: What do you all think about JB's promotional art?

I'm really not looking to make this any sort of management-bashing thread in any way. Strictly aesthetically, I'm wondering what you all think about the promotional art and ads that are on JB's Facebook, social networking-type deals, DVDs (Tour De Force in particular. I thought Vienna Opera House art was cool), etc.

Love the music and all but...does it seem a little cartoony to anyone else? Like a used car dealership type of lettering and promotion? Just seems really really strange to mix that kind of music with that kind of promotion.

Though, feel free to totally disagree, because maybe I'm way out of place here. As, the music is the most important thing of course. But its just something that keeps catching my eye and makes me cringe slightly whenever I see it. To each his own! Maybe I'm alone on this one.

Just looking at all the CD covers and only Driving Towards the Daylight and Different Shades of Blue I don't quite get.
but somebody thought it up and JB would have said,, yeah cool keep it

Certainly artwork is a very subjective thing.I am not sure which promotional art you at referring too though.
As far as covers go,I really like the Dust Bowl artwork.DDTD is just different and cool in its own way.I love the cover of the new cd.I have liked a lot of the concert promo posters for the most part.
Here was a thread in favorite Joe albumns covers a while ago too.Sloe Gin has a cool cover although Joe looks a lot different now than what is in that cover.

Any attempt to please everyone all the time will fail 100% of the time. I have no issues with their promotional art,  the music is all that matters to me.

I've loved JB album art.  I bought the DTTD poster, had it dry mounted, and is now featured in my automotive memorabilia decorated garage (yes, complete with checkered flag inspired floor tile).  If a Different Shades of Blue poster is offered, I'll be adding that one too.

I definitely agree that art that pleases everyone...is not really art, and not really possible. I personally like most of JB's cover art besides a select couple...but not talking about the art on the albums as much as I am of what's below. This style in particular is what I mean when I'm referring to the bits of promotional material all around the social networking efforts. Maybe some really like it, but all of these seem to share the same style in one way or another. Maybe I'm the only one that gets that sort of odd feeling looking at the "collect them all! the reviews are in! show all your friends!" sort of stuff.

Yup, main thing is the music, but these keep catching my eye for one reason or another, hah.

Never thought about it before.To me I it's just advertising.Guess I'm used to it.I don't think negatively about it at all.

way I see that is its advertising flash art.

intended to grab your eye,, even if you don't like it, it did get your attention.

Same reason most TV news jumps about every 10 -12 seconds from the news caster reading and the news video
or music videos every 1-3 seconds jump to a new scene.

I have no problem with the art work.  Rather like the newest album cover.  That being said, no one is putting the effort into album covers like in the late 60's and early 70's.  Those were special times.  Everything was new.  As Jefferson Starship said in Blows Against the Empire, "We don't even know what to call it."  Joe is the best I have heard.  He is not the first.  Not his fault.
It's a different world.  Emphasis is placed on different things.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

I tend to agree, the promotional art could be better. The motorcycle art on the new album does not appeal to me, but I am sure the music will.

I don't mind it - the artwork is VERY different from album to album, and even for the roadshow posters etc.  There are couple that I don't like, but nothing that makes me lose sleep at night... smile

I know that art is very subjective and very varied... my wife is an artist, and as much as I love HER to bits, there is still about 10% of her work that I am not a fan of... big_smile 

But hey, if Joe ever approached my wife and asked her to create artwork for the next album cover, I would ask her to paint my JBLP pink...  actually, no, I wouldnt... lol

Strat, I admit it has crossed my mind occasionally wondering why certain photos of Joe are selected for marketing items.  Some are used over and over and some are quite old.  One piece that I think could be much better is the black shadow figure on the yellow street team cards...it makes Joe look like a scarecrow or refugee!

There is a flood of more recent fabulous shots of Joe, I do question why some of those aren't incorporated into the effort more often.

One thing I hope they never change is the extremely cool "Joe Bonamassa" lettering font.  Don't know how to attach a sample here, but you know what I mean.

I don't like it.

Long-time/regular lurker, irregular/never poster here - never been a fan of the website and the artwork that goes into the emails and such.

It's just kinda dull? I actually really like Joe's album covers (exception - RAH CD and DVD and the Tour de Force stuff). The theme of the site doesn't really fit the album art. If it did, it'd be so much better. I mean fit it with the studio albums, if you tried to re-fit it every time Joe did something new the website would change every 2 months tongue

Some of the coolest album artwork I've ever seen and that I love the most of all the album covers I've seen over my short lifetime have to include "Live from nowhere in particular" and the Vienna acoustic live CD artwork. Those covers are beautiful. They capture the essence of the projects well, and of Joe.
