Hi
I also was puzzled by the V. After a bit of surfing I came to the conclusion it's a '81 (ish) Flying V Heritage which would make it Korina.
The originals had the body grain running parallel to the body edge and the later '90s reissues and custom shop re-issues replicated this. The body on Joe's is 3 piece with the grain running in line with the neck, hence my conclusion...
Take a look at the gallery pics on http://www.flying-v.ch/ and look at the 81-83 Flying V Heritage pics. They look remarkably similar to Joe's

I saw a Hamer flying V at the guitar shop yesterday and the little guitar demon in my head started going YOU GOT TO HAVE THAT!!!!
I ran out of the store screeming! I am sure my wife would of tossed me outside with the dog if I came home with another guitar! HA
Thats why I am going to by pedals instead, easier to hide! HA
My Flying V is a 1981 A series heritage reissue. I bought it from One guitars in Hamburg Germany on the european fall tour of 2008. I played it that night at the Fabrik and every night since. I have since procured the matching explorer of the same year. That might make its debut this fall.

And I was there that evening. I never thought a Flyin' V could sound that fantastic
There was an 83 heritage V for around $3000 on eBay
And Joe - thanks for proving that early 80's Gibsons can be legitimate instruments... 70's and 80's (Norlin) Gibsons get such a bad rap!
Just found this on ebay.

Same Heritage A series as Joe's V. Seems a tad expensive to me but maybe I'm out of touch with Flying V prices. Certainly cheaper than the 50th Anniversary version though.

Joe was faster than me. I'll remember that night forever.
That was my "Royal Albert Hall" show. Standing in the first row, Joe just a meter higher and about a meter away, playing a Flying V he bought in my favourite guitar store...
Oh but Joe, the store's called "NUMBER One Guitars"!

Sorry to dig this one out ... I was at Guitar No.1 together with my two bandmates a few weeks ago. I was wearing my favorite Bonamasa T-Shirt that day, and when we showed up at the desk to pay for our stuff we were told the story about that day Joe came into the shop and bought this amazing guitar ... a really nice story!
I really hope to meet Joe some day in Hamburg in that nice store ...

Thanks for digging this back up. I am currently the owner (care taker of Joe Bonamassa gold) of the explorer, the mate to the flying V that Joe refers too. I am so fortunate to have this iconic guitar that is the mate to the flying V of Joes. Thanks it is great to see the history behind this. Cheers Ron
wow - thats really cool how one piece comes to an other sometimes
You must have some collection of guitars Ron
